2012 – Looking Back
02012 was a strange year for gaming. We had a small amount of new hardware and a low turnout of AAA titles. The usual hyped up console exclusives were few and far between. Looking to online and more open platforms like iOS/Android and the PC though, we can see that things have been somewhat more exciting. 2012 saw a lot of behind the scenes developments; you can see the pieces all coming into place for what should be a spectacular 2013. Here’s a somewhat Sony-centric look back at last year.

Review: Walking Dead Episode 1 : A Game Of Tough Choices
1Telltale games turn their attention to zombies in an episodic adventure series based on Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead comics. Do zombies and modernized point-and-click mechanics work well together?
To those of you who haven’t read the Walking Dead, or seen the (excellent) AMC TV adaptation – It tells the stories of the scattered human population after a zombie apocalypse. The narrative focuses on the interaction between characters and how they cope with the breakdown of society. Its closest approximation is George Romero’s classics if they went on forever in a constant loop of despair, More >
The Last Of Us : Bad spores, good stories
0One of the biggest announcements at this year’s VGAs – The Last Of Us. The surprise for most was that it’s being developed by Naughty Dog. That alone has put it on most people’s radars. Though gameplay is shrouded in mystery it looks like an action/horror game with ND’s expected level of characterisation, acting and attention to detail. If you can’t wait to find out more about the game there are at least some interesting movies, games and TV shows that have explored a similar premise of killer infections. Here’s a list of some of the more obvious ones, though I’m sure I’ve missed a lot!

GameBlob’s Halloween Top 13

What spooky, creepy or otherwise nasty games would I recommend here at Gameblob? The criteria are simple, they have to be games from this console generation, or from within the last 5 years on the PC. This isn’t just a list of “survival horror” games and it’s certainly not a top list of the scariest. Not everyone wants to be traumatised by their games. Whether you’re up for some cute monster mayhem or something psychologically deep, there’s something here for all tastes. (more…)
Learning With The PooYoos: Episode 1
0Educational titles are a bit of a rarity on the PS3, let alone ones for pre-school children. Enter “Learning With The Pooyoos”, a series of activities for very young children featuring a cast of cute cartoon animals. The game recommends 3-6 year olds, though that might be a stretch.
My take on Learning with the PooYoos Ep1 is that it’s a great game for 3 year olds. It probably wouldn’t hold the attention of the upper limit of its recommended age range simply because there isn’t much to do. Every child is different of course. This issue will be alleviated once there are more episodes on the More >
