2012 – Looking Back

0

2012 was a strange year for gaming. We had a small amount of new hardware and a low turnout of AAA titles. The usual hyped up console exclusives were few and far between. Looking to online and more open platforms like iOS/Android and the PC though, we can see that things have been somewhat more exciting. 2012 saw a lot of behind the scenes developments; you can see the pieces all coming into place for what should be a spectacular 2013. Here’s a somewhat Sony-centric look back at last year.

GameBlob’s Halloween Top 13

Halloween is upon us! Pumpkins! Costumes! Sweets! Scary stuff!

What spooky, creepy or otherwise nasty games would I recommend here at Gameblob? The criteria are simple, they have to be games from this console generation, or from within the last 5 years on the PC. This isn’t just a list of “survival horror” games and it’s certainly not a top list of the scariest. Not everyone wants to be traumatised by their games.  Whether you’re up for some cute monster mayhem or something psychologically deep, there’s something here for all tastes.  (more…)

Learning With The PooYoos: Episode 1

0

Educational titles are a bit of a rarity on the PS3, let alone ones for pre-school children. Enter “Learning With The Pooyoos”, a series of activities for very young children featuring a cast of cute cartoon animals. The game recommends 3-6 year olds, though that might be a stretch.

My take on Learning with the PooYoos Ep1 is that it’s a great game for 3 year olds. It probably wouldn’t hold the attention of the upper limit of its recommended age range simply because there isn’t much to do. Every child is different of course. This issue will be alleviated once there are more episodes on the More >

Movies For Gamers – Part 1

5

It’s common knowledge that movies of video game franchises have been largely terrible. Though there is the occasional exception, none could be considered classics.

On the other side of the coin many games borrow quite heavily from movies. We’re talking everything from a few choice lines or minor plot points all the way through possible plagiarism. Fact of the matter is though, if you like certain action and horror games there’s likely a movie or two that will be right up your street. It may even do what your favourite games do better than the games themselves!

This list might be obvious to More >

Five (big) things I’m excited about for E3

0

So E3 is here. We’ve all been waiting for our favourite stories and announcements. Many are hardware related and that’s where this E3 is quite unique for having so much potential. Here are the stories I’m most excited about!

Nintendo Hardware Details Rarely is so much information revealed before a proper hardware unveiling. The 3DS. Head tracking 3D screen, rumours stipulating a PS3/360 level of performance in a hand-held (not likely!), an analogue stick? Nintendo obviously have to bump up the specs to compete with the ageing PSP and the increasingly powerful Apple idevices. Lets hope it’s More >
